Lower Lingual Holding Arch - Lollipop Dental Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

Lower Lingual Holding Arch

The Lower Lingual Holding Arch is a space maintainer appliance that is attached to the lower first molars and connected by a wire that runs along the inside of the lower teeth. It works to prevent the lower molars from growing too far forward, maintains the space of the lower jaw to allow the permanent teeth to grow in straighter, and helps prevent crowding.
What to Expect During Treatment:
  • Please note that it takes 24 hours for the cement to harden.
  • Excessive drooling for 2-3 days is normal.
  • Speech alterations are normal until your child is use to the appliance.
  • Avoid chewing any sticky or crunchy foods ( i.e starbursts, skittles, gum, jolly ranchers, peanuts, ice, etc).
  • If the appliance becomes loose for any reason, please bring your child in as soon as possible. ● Avoid carbonated beverages (sprite, sodas) to avoid dissolving the cement.
  • Some soreness for the first few days is normal. You may give your child Children’s Tylenol or Children Motrin as needed.
  • The adjustment period time can take up to 1-2 weeks.
