Avulsion Splint - Lollipop Dental Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

Avulsion Splint

An avulsion splint is when an Orthodontic wire is used to reposition and stabilize a tooth that has been knocked out of its socket due to trauma. It helps to protect the tooth and surrounding tissues while allowing for proper healing.

Care and Maintenance:

  • Avoid touching the splint unnecessarily.
  • Brush your teeth gently, avoiding the splint area.
  • Keep the splint clean by rinsing it with water after meals.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly.

Diet and Eating Habits:

  • Stick to soft foods and liquids for the first few days.
  • Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that may damage the splint.
  • Do not chew directly on the splint.

Pain Management:

  • Motrin or Ibuprofen for pain as directed.

Follow-Up Appointments:

  • 2 week follow-up appointment with our Orthodontic team to monitor the healing process and adjust the splint if necessary.

Emergency Care:

  • If the splint becomes loose, broken, or causes significant discomfort, contact us immediately.

Activity Restrictions:

  • Avoid activities that may increase the risk of trauma such as active sports.
